Gating your Foleon Docs for lead generation

You can use our lead generation feature to gate your Foleon Docs. In this article, we’ll talk about how to set up a gate using a native Foleon form.

⚠️ This feature is not included in all plans. If you're interested in using lead generation forms, please contact us here.

Why gate your content?

Our lead generation feature allows you to block (further) access to your Foleon Doc on any page. Visitors are prompted with a pop-up and will have to fill in a form in order to receive access.

If you have content that’s valuable enough to gate (like eBooks or white papers), this feature is perfect for giving visitors a taste of your content before they commit to leaving their personal details for the entire thing.

How to set up a Lead Generation gate

In the editor, go to your Foleon Doc settings and scroll down to the Lead Generation section. Switch on the toggle for gate your Foleon Doc and select the option use a native Foleon form.

⚠️ If you’re generating leads in the European Union, you must include opt-ins with a link to your privacy policy to get proper consent from readers. Read more about this in our blog Foleon and GDPR compliance.

Select one of the templates and click Save. After you've picked a template, you can edit and style the page as you'd like. Add elements and change settings to achieve your desired look.

You can add additional fields to your lead generation form. To do so, hover over your form and click edit form.

You have the option to add a field presetcustom fields, and elements. For every component that you add to your form, you can style it by clicking on the settings in the form.

📖 You can also personalize your Foleon Doc based on the information submitted in this form. Read more in our article: Personalize as you go with lead generation forms

💡We currently don't support a reCAPTCHA field to prevent spam form submissions.

To automatically push new leads to your CRM, email marketing platform, or other apps via Zapier, be sure to set up field names.

In the settings of a specific field, open the General settings, and scroll down to Field name.

We advise setting the following field names if you’re looking to collect any of the details below. This ensures that this data gets transferred correctly if you're using Zapier.

  • First name: first_name
  • Last name: last_name
  • Full name: name
  • Email address: email
  • Phone number: phone
  • Gender: gender
  • Company name: company
  • Job title: job

Set a time delay

You can set a time delay to show your lead generation gate only after a set time. This allows your audience to view your Doc for a few seconds before the gate appears.

Navigate to your lead generation page and click the red cogwheel icon to open the settings. Open general settings and set the time delay.

💡 You can set a time delay of up to 10 seconds

Send submissions to an email address

You can receive email notifications for every form submission.

In the lead generation form builder, open the form settings by clicking on the black cogwheel icon. In the general settings, fill in one or multiple email addresses in the field 'send submissions to'.

💡 You can add multiple email addresses by separating them with commas.

Assigning the gate to a page

When you’ve finished setting up your form, you can connect it to any of your pages.

The lead generation form can be found in the Pages overview. Simply grab the lead generation gate and place it in front of the page on which you want the gate to appear. Instead of gating your entire piece of content, you can give your readers access to the first few pages so they are more inclined to fill out the form to keep reading.

In the example below, you can see that the gate is linked to the second page, which is clear from the red "chain" between the two pages.

Once you’re satisfied with your Foleon Doc and the gate you’ve created, hit Publish or Preview to set your Doc live!

Allow readers to skip

You can give your readers the choice to skip and keep reading your pages without completing a form.

First, go to Pages and click on the lead generation gate. Then, click the red cogwheel icon to open the settings. Click on general settings and toggle the "Allow Reader to Skip" option.

💡 Remember to republish your Doc to save the changes.

Download your leads

You can download all form submissions as a CSV from your dashboard. In the project, open the quick actions menu by clicking on the 3 dots on your Foleon Doc. Under download, click download form results. Click confirm in the pop-up to confirm you'd like to receive the results.

After confirming, you'll receive a download link via email.

Alternatively, you can also automatically process and transfer leads from Foleon to 1,000+ other apps through our Zapier integration. Find out how this works in our article: Connecting Foleon to Zapier.

Returning visitors

Foleon places a cookie that remembers whether a visitor has passed your lead generation gate for a specific Foleon Doc. This means that if visitors reopen a gated Do that they’ve already completed, they won’t have to submit the form again as long as they visit from the same device and browser.

This cookie is stored for that specific Doc and isn’t linked to the form used to gate. So, even if you swap out the form, returning visitors will not have to submit the new form.

💡 Some visitors might use browsers or browser extensions that delete cookies automatically. In this case, these visitors might have to fill in your lead generation form every time they visit your Foleon Doc.
