Publish when you're ready

You've created a content gem, and you're getting ready to publish πŸŒŽ β€” sharing it with your audience. Before doing so, there are some technical topics to consider. In this article, you'll learn how to get ready for publishing.

Decide on hosting

Every Foleon Doc needs to live on its own URL. You have two options for hosting your content: using a (free) Foleon domain or your own custom domain.

  • 1️⃣ Free (Foleon) domain
β€” "foleon" will always be included in the URL. Your Foleon Doc will live on the following URL:
https://account-alias.foleon.com/project-alias/foleon-doc-alias/page-alias

πŸ“– To better understand this URL and its makeup, please read Use a (free) domain

  • 2️⃣ Custom domain
β€” Your Foleon Doc(s) will then live on a (sub)domain that you set up with your hosting provider. URLs will look something like this:
http(s)://your-subdomain.your-domain.com/basepath/foleon-doc-alias/page-alias

πŸ“– Want to learn how to set up your own custom domain? Read all about it in our article Hosting on a custom domain.

Next to these two options in the domain setup, it's also possible to host Foleon Docs on your own server.

We compress your content to a ZIP file and send it to you, so you can download it and later upload it to your own server. Read all about it in our article Hosting Foleon Docs on your own server.

Control who has access to your content

When you’re ready to publish your content, it’s important to think about the level of access your audience has. Depending on your plan, we have different options for setting up access control for your live Foleon Docs.

In the Doc settings, scroll down to find the access control section. You'll find the following options there:

  • Username & password
  • Allowlist by IP address
  • Allowlist by email address (OTP)
  • Lead generation
  • Single Sign-on (SSO)
  • Single Sign-on (SSO) with allowlist

πŸ“– Want to learn more? Read all about it in our article Setting up access control.

Set up Google Analytics

Foleon allows you to measure the performance of your Foleon Docs. Next to our built-in analytics, we also enable you to connect your Foleon Docs to Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

We recommend setting up GA4 before you publish any Foleon Docs, so that you don't miss out on any data.

πŸ“– Learn how to set up Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Good to know: Foleon Analytics is switched on by default. In part five of this getting started guide, we'll show you how to optimize your content after you've published it.

Integrate with your Marketing Automation Platform (MAP)

Tracking individual contacts' interaction with your Foleon Docs allows you to personalize follow-ups, trigger workflows, measure engagement, employ lead scoring, and better understand the value of your content.

Want to integrate with your MAP? 🧩 Foleon offers four native MAP tracking integrations:

Review and get approval

Before you publish your Foleon Doc, it's very likely you'll receive feedback from stakeholders, whether they're working in Foleon or not.

You can send out preview of your Doc to see what your content looks like outside of the content editor β€” using it to collect feedback.

To support your feedback process even more, Review Mode lets your team leave comments on a Doc. Collaborate with reviewers to process feedback and publish faster.

Publish your content

Once you're finished creating your content and considered all technical topics, you can publish it. πŸŽ‰ This means that you set it live on the domain that you've set up. During publishing, we optimize the Foleon Doc for search engines, fine-tune the imagery, and make it available on a hostname of your choice.

When you're ready to set your Foleon Doc live, click publish in the top right corner of the editor. Next, you will see a pop-up with the final Publish button and what your Foleon Doc URL will be.

When the Foleon Doc is published, the screen will show you the URL and the possibility to republish when a new change has been made.

You can republish your content as frequently as you like, however small the change may be. The URL will always stay the same β€” unless you change its setup.
