Copying Docs between Accounts

What to expect when Support copies a Doc from one Foleon account to another.

Sometimes you need to move a Foleon Doc from one Foleon account to a completely different account. For example, when transferring content to another business unit or organization. This is different from moving a Doc between workspaces within the same account, which you can do yourself in the dashboard. This article explains what you can expect once that copy has been made, so you know what carries over automatically and what you'll need to set up again yourself.

💡 Copying a Doc between two separate accounts is not a self-service action.  If you need a Doc copied to another account, please contact Foleon Support with the source Doc, the source account, and the target account details, and approval from Admin users from both accounts.

What transfers automatically

When Support copies your Doc to the new account, the visual design and content remain intact. All your pages, overlays, and text will look exactly as they did before. However, everything connected to the Doc's backend configuration will be reset. This includes analytics, integrations, and folder structure. You'll need to reconfigure these in the target account after the copy is complete.

Media assets

All media assets are copied into a single folder in the target account, even if they were originally organized across multiple folders. You may want to reorganize these once the transfer is complete.

Analytics

Copying a Doc to a new account creates a new version of it. This means:

  • Foleon Analytics resets. Historical data isn't lost as you can still view it on the original Doc, as long as that Doc hasn't been deleted. However, it can't be merged with the analytics of the new Doc.
  • Google Analytics keeps working as before, and reports can still be combined, as long as you configure Google Analytics in the new project using the same GA4 ID.

Integrations

Since analytics data doesn't carry over, any Marketing Automation integrations (like HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, or Eloqua) connected to the original Doc won't transfer either. You'll need to reconnect these in the target account to keep lead tracking and generation running smoothly.

Doc settings

Doc-level settings don't copy over one-to-one. Instead, the copied Doc automatically inherits the project-level default settings of the target account, so it's worth reviewing these after the move.

⚠️ If your Doc uses a custom domain with a manually installed SSL certificate, you'll need DNS access and your certificate files on hand to set it up again in the target account.

Custom domains

If your Doc uses a custom domain, that domain needs to be moved from the source account to the target account. Once it's removed from the source account, our Support team will need to unblock the domain before it can be added to the new one, so this step also runs through us.

Access control & security

Security settings such as password protection, IP allowlisting, or email allowlisting (OTP) may not transfer automatically. Because the target account can have a different security setup or user list, you should double-check and, if needed, reconfigure these settings once the copy is complete.

Live URLs

  • If your Doc uses a custom domain, the live URL stays the same once the domain has been moved.
  • If your Doc uses a free Foleon domain (e.g., company-alias.foleon.com), the URL will change, since it's tied to the company alias of the account.

Summary

Copying a Doc between accounts preserves your content, including design, text, media, and layout. Everything related to connectivity, tracking, permissions, and URLs, however, should be treated as new and reconfigured manually in the target account.

💡 Because this process involves manual steps on our end, always start by reaching out to Foleon Support rather than trying to copy or export a Doc between accounts yourself.
