With the 'Set as primary' option, you can choose which Foleon Doc visitors see by default when navigating to your project's root URL. If someone visits a link with a typo or tries to open a Doc that's offline, they'll be redirected to the primary Doc instead. If no Docs are published in the project, they can also be sent to a 404 error page instead.

Why set a primary Doc?
By default, if a visitor lands on a broken or mistyped URL, they’ll be redirected to the most recently published Foleon Doc in the project.
But that’s not always ideal. You might prefer to direct visitors to a specific Doc, such as a branded 404 page, or an overview of your key content.
That’s where setting a primary Doc comes in. When you set a Doc as primary, visitors are always sent there instead of the most recently published one.
Here are a few examples of how to use a primary Doc:
- Create a content hub with an overview of your most inspiring Docs
- Create a branded 404 page to help users know they've landed on an incorrect URL
How to set a Doc as primary
Navigate to the Doc you want to set as your primary. Click the three dots to open the quick actions menu. Next, select the option Set as primary.
Once set, an icon will appear indicating that this Doc is the Primary Doc for your project.
You can change the primary to another Doc at any time. To do this, navigate to the new Doc you'd like to set as primary, and follow the steps above.
⚠️ Once a Doc is set as primary, it’s not possible to disable this feature entirely — you can only assign a different Doc as primary. If you'd like to disable the primary Doc setting, contact our support team.
Best practice: Create a Content Hub Doc
Using Set as primary is a great way to make your project’s root URL useful, especially when paired with a well-designed content hub.
A content hub is a single-page overview of your most inspiring Docs. It’s a helpful destination if a visitor hits a broken or outdated link.
Tips for designing a strong content hub:
- Keep it simple: Disable the navigation bar and page arrows for a clean, one-page experience.
- Use visuals: Add screenshots of key Docs and link them to the full versions. A subtle shadow around images can help them stand out.
- Stay on-brand: Use your Brand Kit to ensure the hub matches your overall look and feel.
